Service Project - "Thankful For Books"

"Thankful For Books"

Starting on November 1, 2015, one of our Pack 3763 Tigers will begin collecting gently used young reader books for his project called “Thankful For Books.” These books will be distributed to children of financial need who may not have any or very many books of their own at home.

Our Scout invented this project last year because he feels it is important for every child to have their very own books to read and love. He decided to call the project “Thankful For Books” because it was Thanksgiving time and books are something to be thankful for and valued. Last year he was able to give 650 children each their very own book. It was incredibly moving to see how excited the children were to pick out a book for themselves to keep. Our Scout’s goal is to collect and give even more books this year.

If you would like to donate to this project, please bring gently used books to November's Pack Meeting at the YMCA (Sunday, 11/15). We will have a collection box available. Books will be taken to “First Five,” “Head Start,” and “Mexican American Opportunity Foundation” preschools which all serve families of limited financial resources. These schools are located in the Conejo Valley and in Ventura County. The children will get to select their own book, have their name written in it, and receive a personalized bookmark.
Any books from baby books, picture books to young reader books are well suited for these children, but books of all age levels are welcome. All books donated will find a home.

Thank you in advance for considering this worthwhile project & supporting our Tiger!
